The Canadian Association of Internet Providers (CAIP) is the industry organization representing Internet service providers in this country. In 1998, it created a voluntary privacy code to address concerns such as the control and disclosure of Internet users’ personal information.
The CAIP code complies with the Model for the Protection of Personal Information developed by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) – particularly with respect to privacy in online environments.
CAIP continues to review the Privacy Code, at least once a year, to make sure that it stays current in terms of changing technologies, regulatory regimes, and the evolving needs of its members and their clients.
Consumers wishing to report a CAIP member organization that may have contravened the Code of Conduct can contact CAIP directly via its Web site (see right sidebar).
