Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) - Violence in Children's Programming Policy
Throughout its history, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) has been committed to producing high-quality children’s programming. Accordingly, it also developed guidelines designed to protect children from violence in the programming intended for them.
The Violence in Children's Programming policy acknowledges that “the CBC recognizes that the portrayal of aggression and violence may lead to anxiety or imitative behaviour in children.” However, it also recognizes that children should not be sheltered from all the realities of life; and that the adults in their lives are ultimately responsible for monitoring the suitability of what children watch on TV. Therefore, CBC programming for children stresses “cooperative interaction, and the non-violent resolution of conflict.”
Viewers who wish to complain about CBC content for children that they feel may contravene the Violence in Children's Programming policy should contact the Audience Relations Department at: 1-866-306-4636 or by e-mail (see right sidebar).
