The British Columbia Association for Media Education (BCAME) was formed in 1991 by a group of British Columbia teachers and media professionals.

BCAME has been an active supporter of media education training for British Columbia teachers. Its members have provided numerous workshops and presentations at conferences and events across the province. Its executive organized BC’s first-ever provincial media education conference, which took place in Vancouver on October 22, 1999, the province-wide professional development day.

In the summer of 2002, BCAME partnered with CHUM television to provide two one-week training sessions on media literacy for media literacy teachers and teacher librarians.

BCAME has worked with the BC Ministry of Education on an informal, advisory basis and in 1994 was contracted by the Ministry to produce "A Conceptual Framework for Media Education and Cross Curricular Learning Outcomes and Opportunities for Teaching and Assessment."

Over the years, BCAME has produced a number of media education resources, including two "Resource Samplers" of information and strategies for teachers.

BCAME anticipates increasing its membership and improving communication between its members through a new email list for BC Media Educators.
