In 1996, a group of Canadian Internet service providers created a national organization to support their growing industry. The Canadian Association of Internet Providers (CAIP) is a non-profit organization with a mission to foster the growth of a healthy and competitive Internet service industry in this country.
In its short history, CAIP has grown to represent Internet Service Providers of all sizes across the nation. Its current members provide more than 85 per cent of all Internet connections to Canadian homes, schools, and businesses.
CAIP's Code of Conduct states that all members will adhere to Canada's laws and cooperate with law enforcement officials. CAIP was an active partner in the development and release of the federal government's CyberWise Strategy on Illegal and Offensive Content on the Internet. It has also taken a number of initiatives in line with the strategy's priorities.
