All theatrical films shown publicly and all adult sex videos sold or rented through video retail outlets must be viewed and classified by the BPCPA Film Classification. The BPCPA Film Classification also classifies films and adult videos for the province of Saskatchewan.
Films are classified using the same ratings as the Canadian Rating System for Home Videos. The Classification Office also issues warning labels, such as "Frightening Scenes," "Sexual Violence," "nudity" in order to bring to the public's attention any potentially offensive material in the content of films. These warning labels must appear in the film's advertisements.
Here are the ratings and what they mean.
The BPCPA Film Classification does not classify retail home videos. All videos releases - except adult sex videos - are classified by the Canadian Rating System for Home Videos. B.C. regulates the distribution, sale and rental of adult sex videos. Video retailers must submit adult videos they have acquired to the BPCPA Film Classification for approval. Once approved, the videos must carry a label that reads Adult - B.C. Approved. For more information on film classification in British Columbia, contact:
