The following information is part of a survey by Toronto-based International Data Corp Canada Ltd. The survey was conducted during a two-week period in April 1999 and was based on data collected through random telephone calls to 2,000 Canadian adults.
Exactly 50 per cent of all Canadian households include at least one person with regular access to the Internet at home, work, school or another location.
Almost 41 per cent of Canadian adults have access to the Internet. Seventy-two per cent of those have access in their homes, while 56 per cent are connected at work.
Canadian women are increasingly using the Internet. They now comprise 45 per cent of all Internet users in Canada.
American women now comprise 50 per cent of all Internet users in the United States.
