The following information is part of a 1999 study by Statistics Canada.
Almost one Canadian household in four is connected to the Internet.
More than one-third of all households include someone who uses the Net from home, work or school.
In 1998, there were 2,689,000 households using the Net, up 44 per cent from 1997. This represents 23 per cent of all households in the country at that time.
In households with Internet connectivity, 86 per cent use e-mail and 78 per cent spend time surfing the Web.
The proportion of houses with Internet access rose in every province between 1997 and 1998, with the highest increase in Alberta, where 45 per cent of all households are connected. British Columbia was second, with 42 per cent of households online.
Quebec, with only 26 per cent of households linked, has the lowest proportion of computer use of any province.
