Canada's Newspaper Empires (Canada)
  • Southam/Hollinger control 40.7 per cent of daily newspaper circulation in Canada -- together the companies publish 57 dailies and 124 non-dailies.
  • Quebecor/Sun Media control 21.7 per cent of daily newspaper circulation in Canada, with 15 daily newspapers.
  • Torstar Corp. controls 14.2 per cent of Canada's daily newspaper circulation (five daily newspapers).
  • Thomson Corp. controls 10.7 per cent of daily newspaper circulation in Canada (six newspapers).
  • Power Corp. controls 5.7 per cent of daily newspaper circulation in Canada, with two daily papers.
  • Halifax Herald Ltd. owns two daily newspapers comprising 2.3 per cent of daily newspaper circulation in Canada.
  • Brunswick News Inc.(owned by the Irving family) controls 2.2 per cent of circulation in Canada, with four daily newspapers.
  • Annex Publishing Inc. publishes two daily newspapers for 0.3 per cent of Canadian circulation.
  • Independent newspapers, including Le Devoir in Montreal and the Red Deer Advocate, control 0.6 per cent of daily newspaper circulation in Canada.
