U.S. radio listeners have access to a wide range of musical tastes as a result of radio industry restructuring.
In Boston, which has a population of 3.2 million and radio revenues of US$176 million, 15 FM stations owned by only four companies offer 15 different musical formats.
In Seattle, which has a population of 3.3 million and radio revenues of US$123 million, four companies own 14 of 17 FM stations. Eleven of the 17 have different music-based formats.
By contrast, Toronto, with 3.8 million people and Cdn$123 million in revenues, has 12 FM stations, all with different owners, offering 8 music formats.
